Workshops for adults
Through these workshops I would like to welcome and celebrate your inner child and encourage the free spirited, spontaneous and joyful parts of you that may have got a little lost in adulthood.

These are not workshops about making great art or being right or wrong, but getting lost in the flow and joy of the moment, and perhaps discovering something new about yourself along the way

Research shows play is important for adult well-being, not just children. It can be easier to learn new tasks better when they are fun and we are in a relaxed and playful mood. Play can also stimulate imagination; helping us adapt and problem solve; improve relationships and our connection to others. Sharing laughter and fun can relieve stress, foster empathy, compassion and trust with others.

Why try these workshops?
Anything we do recreationally that brings us joy or excitement counts as playing, here are some amazing benefits from creative play:
Imagination - Play stimulates our imagination which helps us to develop a more flexible way of thinking promoting better problem solving.
Expression – We can project thoughts and feelings into our play and creativity, this can help us gain a deeper insight into our inner world, and help express ourselves in a form that maybe feel more comfortable to us than using words.
Less over-thinking - Play can be an activity that allows our minds to stop overthinking, giving our mind a break and an opportunity to relax.
Productivity - It can make us more productive, happier, lower stress, build our confidence and help in developing positive relationships.
Better communication - It could also be an opportunity to develop more playful approaches that you could use with your kids or grandkids.
Workshops
Therapeutic Doodles 25th October 2024 7pm - 8.45pm
Therapeutic doodles can be a fun and playful tool helping us connect with our unconscious processes and deeper self, as well as help with relaxation, mindfulness, emotional release and improving our concentration.
Using mixed media, you will be gently guided into doodling with line, shape, colour and symbols. Creative games, group creations and individual activities will be introduced, and space and guidance offered for self-reflection and discovery.

Clay and Story making
I will invite you to explore the sensory experience of clay, bashing rolling, tearing throwing, squishing, what feels good for you?! I love the versatility of clay, it can be manipulated into what you would like it to be, and transformed until it’s final form feels right. The exploration of clay will be personal to you, there is no wrong outcome. I will then invite you into creating your clay to take on a form, and guide you through creating engaging stories in small groups to bring them to life. Clay work can provide a calming and meditative experience, reducing stress and anxiety.
Messy Art
Leave your worries at the door and immerse yourself in a world of colours, textures, and self-expression. The workshop will begin with some playful creative drawing games, encouraging your mind to move away from technique and style and towards instinct and spontaneity. I will then invite you to explore the various creative mediums, styles and tools that will be available. Stamp, Splatter, Pour, Roll, Brush, Stick, Flick..... Immersing yourself within this messy sensory experience can open up opportunity to see beauty from a different perspective, perhaps discovering new colours, textures, smells, shapes and patterns that would not have come into form through a more controlled and planned approach. Within the session I will also invite you to create a group piece of art.
Whether you're a seasoned artist or just looking for a unique way to unwind, Messy Art is the perfect opportunity to tap into your imagination and rediscover the joy of play. Invite your friends and make it a memorable evening of laughter, self-discovery, and creative expression.

Music and imagination
Music is multi-sensory and engages the whole brain. It can therefore be a powerful tool in developing and integrating our sensory system, processing emotions, memories and decision making. This workshop will involve group games using instruments to engage and interact, as well as creating music into playful soundtracks of events and scenarios. No musical skill is necessary, just an open mind. We can use music and sound to communicate and connect, and hopefully experience the mood-lifting and relaxing properties that it can provide. The session will end with the meditative experience of a sound bath lead by sound therapist Gemma Hunter, where you will be invited into stillness and ‘bathed’ in sound waves.

Intuitive Collage
Through cutting and sticking different images together, a unique piece of art is formed. This captivating process can allow for relaxation, as well as a medium to support reflection and self-awareness. Collages possess a unique ability to transcend the noise of our conscious thoughts and tap into the depths of our intuition. Through a blend of images, colours and symbols, they offer a pathway to insights and self-discovery.
The workshop will begin with some creative playful games before I share some gentle guidance and invite you towards making your collage. This is not about creating great art or using skilled techniques, but moving past the thinking mind and trusting in the creative playful process.
I welcome you to join this small group in my garden studio, an open mind and a sense of playfulness is all that is required.
